Good Luck to All My THON Dolls!

Khloe Kardashian sheds light on THON, the Penn State Dance Marathon, an organization that raises money for pediatric cancer.
I just wanted to take a moment to wish all of my dolls dancing at THON or working at THON the best of luck during this incredible weekend!!! For those of you who don’t know, THON (Penn State Dance Marathon) is the biggest student-run philanthropy in the world and it raises money for pediatric cancer. The students work all year raising money in any way they can, and the year culminates in a 46 hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon. Can you guys imagine 46 hours on your feet with NO sleep?! INSANE!!!!!! I’m told by people who have participated though that what keeps them going is the knowledge that the blisters, shin splints, burning eyes, and exhaustion are nothing compared to what these children endure. So that’s how they power through. Truly inspiring! (more…)

100 Days ’til THON!!!!!

Hi dolls. As some of you may remember, last year I learned about and was inspired by a charity called THON, also known as the Penn State Dance Marathon. It’s the biggest student-run philanthropy in the world and it’s devoted to raising money for pediatric cancer. A friend of mine graduated from Penn State and when she told me about it, I was blown away by the incredible dedication of the students involved and immediately began to blog about it. I was instantly greeted on my blog and on Twitter by thousands of excited Penn State students eager to educate me further about their cause. They work all year raising money for children with cancer, and the year of fundraising culminates in a no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon. Can you believe that?! 46 hours on your feet???? So insane! However, to those involved, 46 sleepless hours is nothing compared to what these children endure. (more…)

THON Raised $7,838,054 For The Kids!

When I found out that the Penn State students raised  $7,838,054 for pediatric cancer research I seriously died…I just couldn’t believe it. I knew that it was the biggest student-run philanthropy in the world, but just seeing that number still somehow put me into a state of shock.  Keep in mind these are STUDENTS who are devoting all of their college time to such an incredible cause — seeing all of their hard work pay off honestly brought tears to my eyes.  ESPECIALLY in this economy, the fact they were still able to beat last year’s total is unreal and I don’t think anyone was expecting that.

I just wanted to do this post to tell the thousands of people who put their time, energy and heart into THON how proud I am of all of you and how much you have inspired me since I learned about your wonderful charity. Thank you so much for everything you do and keep on fighting.  It’s because of people like you that I truly believe that one day we will find a cure.

I just saw this article about how my post and my tweets helped raise awareness about THON and it honestly made me so happy. But it wasn’t just me who did this, it was all of YOU who took the time to go to THON’s website, learn more about the cause and donate. You should all feel really good about yourselves for giving back to something so wonderful and making a difference in the life of a child. I’m so impressed and inspired by what those Penn State students do and the level of devotion they put towards THON and I hope some day soon it gets the worldwide credit and attention it deserves.

THON, something that is already big, could one day become even bigger. We all just have to continue to spread the word. For those of you who want to catch all the action, you can actually watch THON weekend live on www.thon.org, so tune in February 19th-21st!!!
Thank you so much again to everyone who donated — beyond touched your generosity! xoxoxo

Help Beat Childhood Cancer

Khloe-Kardashian-Jasmina-Anema-Pediatric-Cancer-Penn-State-Dance-Marathon-012910.jpg

Last month Lamar and I took part in a holiday special called Holiday of Stars where we were introduced to a little girl named Isabelle whose best friend Jasmina was battling Leukemia.  Well yesterday Lamar and I received the devastating news that Jasmina, just 6-years-old, had lost her fight against Leukemia.  My heart goes out to her friends, family and everyone that knew and loved her.

Cancer is a vicious and heartbreaking disease, and it seems even more cruel when a child is taken.  While we may all feel helpless, there is something we can do.  A friend of mine told me about a charity called the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) where students rally together each school year to raise money for the fight against Pediatric cancer. It’s the biggest student run philanthropy in the world, having raised over $61 million in the past 35 years. Each year culminates in a 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon involving over 15,000 student volunteers. It’s comforting and truly inspiring to know that because of these students’ devotion, families have received the support they need, both financially and emotionally.

Watch the video below to take a closer look at how the Penn State students are helping these brave children win their fight against cancer, and go to www.thon.org to make a donation.  EVERY PENNY HELPS!!!!!! Please donate what you can!
