Motivational Monday: Rocks and Sand

A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in

front of him. When class began, wordlessly he picked up a large
empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks
about 2″ in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them
into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course,
rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The students laughed. The professor picked up a box of sand and
poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

“Now,” said the professor, “I want you to recognize that this is
your life. The rocks are the important things – your family, your
partner, your health, your children – anything that is so important
to you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed.

“The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your
house, your car.

“The sand is everything else. The small stuff.

“If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the
pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend
all your energy and time on the small stuff, you will never have
room for the things that are important to you.

“Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your
partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean
the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.

“Take care of the rocks first – the things that really matter. Set
your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

I love this! On a side note, Khloe you look great and look so happy and comfortable with yourself. Could you do a post for girls about how you came to terms with weight/self-image/eating issues? And what your attitude is towards food? I’ve been struggling for years to healthily get to a weight where I am comfortable, but making permanent lifestyle changes has been a challenge. I don’t want to waste another year of my life being stuck uncomfortable. I would very much value your thoughts/story because you are a role model and an inspiration!! PLEASE consider, you have no idea how much this would mean to me! xoxo

Love your Rocks and Sand Khloe, especially the “take time to get medical check ups”. I launched my blog Hypothyroid Mom on this same day you posted this message. I miscarried a child in 2009 because my doctors had no idea that hypothyroidism, an underactive thyroid, could cause a miscarriage if not properly managed. All women thinking about getting pregnant or who are pregnant, should get their thyroid checked right away.

Khloe, I actually just discovered all your old posts about some of the topics I was asking you about in my previous post. Also, that you had a Khloe knows best where fans could ask you questions! I wish I would have known about your site back when you did that! i loved reading how you said you read every single one of your posts… that makes me happy. I know you don’t normally respond to individual posts but I would just die if you responded to me either on here or on twitter. I don’t have twitter but I look at yours every day. If you could tell me ONE piece of advice about getting comfortable in your own skin what would it be? XOXO
