Help Beat Childhood Cancer

Last month Lamar and I took part in a holiday special called Holiday of Stars where we were introduced to a little girl named Isabelle whose best friend Jasmina was battling Leukemia.  Well yesterday Lamar and I received the devastating news that Jasmina, just 6-years-old, had lost her fight against Leukemia.  My heart goes out to her friends, family and everyone that knew and loved her.

Cancer is a vicious and heartbreaking disease, and it seems even more cruel when a child is taken.  While we may all feel helpless, there is something we can do.  A friend of mine told me about a charity called the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) where students rally together each school year to raise money for the fight against Pediatric cancer. It’s the biggest student run philanthropy in the world, having raised over $61 million in the past 35 years. Each year culminates in a 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon involving over 15,000 student volunteers. It’s comforting and truly inspiring to know that because of these students’ devotion, families have received the support they need, both financially and emotionally.

Watch the video below to take a closer look at how the Penn State students are helping these brave children win their fight against cancer, and go to to make a donation.  EVERY PENNY HELPS!!!!!! Please donate what you can!

Thank you so much for bringing to light this great cause-it is truly one of greatest opportunities Penn State has to offer. Using your influence to help us raise money for these kids is a wonderful thing. As a Penn Stater, I thank you :)

Khloe it would be amazing if you made the trip out for Thon. I know it would mean so much to the thousands of students involved, and the kids would be SO pumped about it. As a senior here, I can’t tell you how amazing this weekend is.

Thank you so much for recognizing the amazing work that Penn State students do every year for these children. I danced last year and it was one of the hardest yet most amazing things I’ve done in my life. The bigger THON gets the closer we come to finding a cure. This especially hits home for me not only because of the relationships I have had with some of these children but the recent diagnosis of my mother’s cancer. Once again thanks for helping get the work out. FTK

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting such a great cause on your site. As a Penn Stater I have seen what THON does for Penn State it bring us closer on a campus so big it this cause makes us feel so small. We raise money year round for the 4 diamonds fund and we hope that one day our hope, love and dedication will beat this ugly monster these young kids who have to grow up beyond their years have to face.
    Thank You AGAIN!!!

I was so excited to see you had mentioned THON in your blog!!! As a Penn State alum, I was so impressed by THON that it helped me decide to go to Penn State. I danced my senior year and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Prior to dancing, raising money the four years I was at Penn State were way more important. I’m so happy to see that you have made others aware of THON as well. Spreading the news can only invigorate others to get involved in any cancer fighting organization. Thank you.

    Hi Khloe,

As a current 2010 THON Captain, I just wanted to personally thank you for everything that you have done to support us and help generate awareness of our cause. You truly inspire all of us here at Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON). With THON 2010 right around the corner (Feb. 19-21), we would love for you to join us and experience our passion. It is truly a breathtaking experience!

Please let us know if you would like to attend so that we can accommodate you and your family!

For The Kids! For The Fight! For The Cure!

One day, we’ll dance in celebration. Until then, we’ll continue to dance for a cure.
