Help Beat Childhood Cancer

Last month Lamar and I took part in a holiday special called Holiday of Stars where we were introduced to a little girl named Isabelle whose best friend Jasmina was battling Leukemia.  Well yesterday Lamar and I received the devastating news that Jasmina, just 6-years-old, had lost her fight against Leukemia.  My heart goes out to her friends, family and everyone that knew and loved her.

Cancer is a vicious and heartbreaking disease, and it seems even more cruel when a child is taken.  While we may all feel helpless, there is something we can do.  A friend of mine told me about a charity called the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) where students rally together each school year to raise money for the fight against Pediatric cancer. It’s the biggest student run philanthropy in the world, having raised over $61 million in the past 35 years. Each year culminates in a 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon involving over 15,000 student volunteers. It’s comforting and truly inspiring to know that because of these students’ devotion, families have received the support they need, both financially and emotionally.

Watch the video below to take a closer look at how the Penn State students are helping these brave children win their fight against cancer, and go to to make a donation.  EVERY PENNY HELPS!!!!!! Please donate what you can!

As a previous dancer, committee member, and now a current THON captain, we can’t thank you enough for spreading the word about THON. We’ve been working hard all year to spread awareness of the fight and to finally conquer pediatric cancer. It is inspiring and truly amazing that you not only know about THON, but are also helping out the cause by telling others. Thank you so much!! FOR THE KIDS.

Hi Khloe, Thank you so much for doing this. As a Penn State alumni, I was really active in THON. I danced in 2004, and only became more involved after that, which gave me the privilege of getting to know so many families and children in their fights against cancer. Though we sometimes lose our brave little angels in the fight, I know that it is one we can win. Your support means so much to all those who have known cancer- I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. For The Kids <3

Thank you so much for raising awareness for THON! I’m a Penn State Student and also a THON chairperson and hoping to dance this year! By talking about this, you will inspire so many people to help us out!! As so many others have commented, if there is any way you can make it to THON weekend Feb 19-21, you should really consider it. The event itself is so inspiring and it is unlike anything you have seen before! The PSU community would be honored to have you come!! Thanks again! FOR THE KIDS <3
