Help Beat Childhood Cancer

Last month Lamar and I took part in a holiday special called Holiday of Stars where we were introduced to a little girl named Isabelle whose best friend Jasmina was battling Leukemia.  Well yesterday Lamar and I received the devastating news that Jasmina, just 6-years-old, had lost her fight against Leukemia.  My heart goes out to her friends, family and everyone that knew and loved her.

Cancer is a vicious and heartbreaking disease, and it seems even more cruel when a child is taken.  While we may all feel helpless, there is something we can do.  A friend of mine told me about a charity called the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) where students rally together each school year to raise money for the fight against Pediatric cancer. It’s the biggest student run philanthropy in the world, having raised over $61 million in the past 35 years. Each year culminates in a 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon involving over 15,000 student volunteers. It’s comforting and truly inspiring to know that because of these students’ devotion, families have received the support they need, both financially and emotionally.

Watch the video below to take a closer look at how the Penn State students are helping these brave children win their fight against cancer, and go to www.thon.org to make a donation.  EVERY PENNY HELPS!!!!!! Please donate what you can!

Khloe, we can not thank you enough for helping us spread the word about THON and the passionate group of people that support it as well as our Four Diamonds children. I’ve been involved for 4 years now and words cannot describe the amount of love and compassion that goes into this cause. Everyone should definitely check out the site at http://www.thon.org! Thanks again Khloe!

Heyy Khloe! THANK YOU SO MUCH for talking about THON and getting the word out there about what Penn State does to fight pediatric cancer. I danced last year and while the 46 hours of no sitting or sleeping may have been unbearable at times, looking around and seeing what it means to the young kids there makes it all worth it. Speaking to parents at the event, this is one of the most exciting weekends for THON children and their families. It’s the one weekend out of the year where they can forget about their disease and have fun! It’s truly an amazing site to see. THON weekend is February 19-21 this year. Please do all you can to donate. Visit thon.org to read stories, buy THON merchandise, find out how you can donate, and even watch the event live via webcast during THON weekend. We raised over $7.4 million last year and are hoping to do even better this year! As we say here at Penn State, we do it all FTK…for the kids. THANK YOU KHLOE for recognizing this wonderful cause.

Hi Khloe, I’m also a Penn Stater and attempting to dance independently for THON this year!!! That means that my “dancer partner” and I have raised at least $2,500 on our own in the past 4 months. If you or your friends would be willing to help us get more bids in the “dancer lottery” we’d love your help!! The money still goes to THON, it just helps us reach our goal too :)
When donating online, you should have the option to choose an organization. Ours is called “Kiery Volkhardt & Alex Luciano #1500″ Our deadline is February 1st!!!

Also, THON would love to have you! It’s coming up soon! Feel free to come take a look during the weekend!
