Bullies Need to Get a Life!

Lately I’ve been hearing a lot of horror stories about bullying and I wanted to take a moment to vent my frustrations about the issue.  I’m sure most of you have heard about Phoebe Prince, a teenage girl who hung herself after constantly being badgered by kids at school.

I also heard about an eleven-year-old boy who took his life as well after being bullied by his peers.

The number of bullying-related suicides is increasing by the year and these stories truly break my heart.

I wasn’t bullied in school but I was made fun of because I was fat. Thank God I had older sisters who the minute I told them what had happened would actually show up at my school to scare the kids, but not everyone has that.  I have also always had thick skin — even now the media can often be bullies but I am older now and I can take it.  The difference is that today these kids are given so many different outlets to bully.  When I was a child and being teased, we didn’t have Twitter, Facebook or MySpace so bullying only went on during school hours.  Now kids go to school and are tortured, and they come home and still have to deal with it online — there’s no escape.

When I was  growing up my parents always taught us to be kind and I will teach my children to do the same.  I just don’t understand why people feel the need to be cruel to others — don’t they have something better to do with their time? The fact that anyone can be SO vicious that it pushes another person to take their own life is unfathomable to me.

A lot of bullying is done out of jealousy — Phoebe Prince for instance was bullied because girls were jealous of the boy she had been dating.  I have said this a million times…jealousy is a disease.  Seriously, get better soon.

To the children who are bullying: Honestly, get a life. What does it say about you that you spend your time making someone else’s life miserable?  I feel sorry for you.

To the parents of the bullies: Kindness is the #1 lesson to teach your children.

To witnesses of bullying: Intervene, no matter what it does to your reputation!!!

To the children being bullied: Hang in there, things will only get better as you get older.

Hi Khloe, this is a great post and I totally agree with you. When I was young, a girl at school used to bully me but I have always been confident about myself, so one day I realised that she was jealous of me so I never paid anymore attention to her. A couple of years ago I saw this person at a rehab place for drug abuse and I felt sorry for her because she was never happy but as for me today I have a successful job, I am happily married to a wonderful guy and together we have a beautiful son. To love yourself is really important guys!!! Love and kisses to all xxxx

I got made fun of for being fat all through elementary and middle school, and occasionally I took shots from boys in my class when we were in HIGH school. I had a big group of friends and wasn’t a loner but kids can still be so immature at 17 years old. I struggled with SO many issues with myself because of what other people were saying to me, so thank you OS MUCH for posting this, it’s an issue that not enough people are worried about!

    Hi Khloe!

In Portugal, last month, a boy jump of a bridge and killed himself because of bullying! he was 12 years old… some girl was always teasing him and probably beat him as well.. he was found a few days after he jump, this is so sad and really makes me mad they don’t have the right to make other suffer!

    kisses from Portugal :)
