Actually, I voted for Prop 8 and my vote was NOT for hate. I'm a Christian and I believe that God created marriage for a MAN and a WOMAN. Everyone should RESPECT each other's vote. It's interesting because I thought the Kardashian's were Christians as well... I guess people change when they get fame. God Bless*

I was raised in a very strict catholic home, and despite that I still believe that love is love no matter who you are. So many things are said in the bible that have been interpreted by people throughout the years who have an agenda to promote a certain way of living, but if you interpret it literally women would have zero rights, and we'd live under a strict regime very much the way they do in several parts of the middle east. I would never vote for prop Hate because I am not god, and therefore I have no right to judge nor to tell someone how to live their life. Just because gay marriage is legal NO ONE is making you marry someone of the same sex! But if it is illegal YOU ARE sayin to people who they can or cannot marry, YOU ARE MAKING THAT CHOICE FOR THEM! I am very happily married and I could not imagine if someone told me today that I couldn't marry my husband because the bible said that he is of a mixed race or he is too tall for me or for some ridiculous thing which he did NOT choose to be!

LOVE IS LOVE! Geez, do people not get it? I was raised Catholic and still am. I think people can do what they please, it's their life, NOT yours. God created all of us and he loves all of us no matter what. There may be things in the Bible, but how do you know EVERYTHING in the Bible is true? You know that game where you sit in a circle and start by someone whispering in someones ear and they pass it down then in the end it's a totally different thing than what was first said, yep, kinda like that. Hat's off to you, and any others voting against Prop8. I'm from South Africa, but have been following this issue closely. Gay marriage has been a part of our constitution for a few years now, and I can't believe a great country like the USA is only dealing with this issue now.

In my opinion, gay marriage is not about religion...not everything in the world is about religion! It's simply about equality, and letting your "neighbour" live the life he or she wants too!

I don't think it matters whether you're christian or not or what your beliefs are.. I was raised in Catholic church and Catholic schools my whole life..the right for gay marriage is about EQUALITY..God does not cast judgement on others. People who are gay do not CHOOSE to be gay, they are made that way. If it is a sin, why would God make people gay? If they could control who they love, then why are there so many people trying to hide the fact that they are gay? Or in extreme cases, killing themselves because they think it's wrong for them to be gay? I've known this to happen and I know this would not happen if all the close minded people in the word would stop feeding into bigotry.. I ALWAYS respect everybody's beliefs, I really truly do, but in this case, this shouldn't be considered a "belief", it comes down to what is right. And like the sign says, love is love. What if your child turns out gay? Are you going to tell them it's wrong? You should be teaching your children that as long as they are in love, it doesn't matter who it is, instead of trying to show them a "bad" side to being gay. There is no bad side. It's embarassing that America does not fully allow this right to being a human being to all people. Also, one last thing.. I have many gay friends and if their partner is in the hospital dying, they can't even be allowed into the room because they're not considered family. That is a damn shame and I'm sorry to say, but all who vote against gay marriage should be ashamed of themselves, it is because of the so many people against it that this is allowed to happen.

To the people that say 'It's in the Bible', please tell me, how do you know everything the the bible is true? also i want to say that when the Bible says do not judge lest you be judged..its important to read it in context. It is referring to people that are judging someone of something they themselves do. So this would only apply to marie hardy if she herself were doing the same (trying to marry a woman) it would make her a hypocrite. But we are able to judge based on scripture. In fact the Bible tells us to. Always read scripture the way it is intended and the purpose it was written for. And yes when people say they love God and do not keep his commandment the Bible calls them liars and the truth is not in them..that applies to people who profess CHrist and live in this way.

I am a Christian as well. I believe that God made us male and female to be together. I also believe He gave us the freedom of choice. We are free to live the lives we want with whomever we want to live it with. That is what He gave us. As a Christian it is not my right to tell anyone how they can live, who they can date or a woman she can or can't have an abortion.

I believe in tolerance for all. However, I personally do not agree with gay marriage or the gay lifestyle. I think its wrong and its against God. But even as I type that, I would never discriminate against a man or woman for chosing to be gay or wanting what I as a straight woman have the right to have which is get married and have a family.

Someone on this post said that its hate to vote for prop 8. I don't think its hate. I do think that there are people who are like me. Christians standing up for what I believe in but not wanting to deny someone civil liberties at the same time.

This subject is a hard one for me because I am also a black woman who has been discriminated against on many occassions.

1st- I am being denied the right to marry my wife which I did last july in my church, and i am sooo afraid this marriage will now be taken away by Prop. 8. 2nd-I am being denied my right to practice my religion, you see I am not a christian, and not all americans are christian!!!!! I am a unitarian universalist (UU). Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion with Jewish-Christian roots. It has no creed. It affirms the worth of human beings, advocates freedom of belief and the search for advancing truth, and tries to provide a warm, open, supportive community for people who believe that ethical living is the supreme witness of religion. My religion tells me gays can get married and can get married in our faith. So because of homophobic people quoting the scipture of their religion I cannot practice my religion freely.

While I am in favor of gay marriage I would just like to point out that this motion is not based on peoples' opinions (whether religious or poiltical)of gay marriage, but is based on TAXES. States who pass gay marriage rev up their tax base dramatically because any marriage is taxed through the state's fiscal system. So while it is nice to believe that politicians chose to make their state pro-gay marriage based on pathos, one would be living in a dream world if they were to overlook the hard cold truth of the power of money.

I feel that if you love someone m/w, m/m, w/w...then so freakin be it...why the hell should we have to vote on if its ok for 2 people to get married?? like wtf....Having to vote on someone elses rights..because supposedly we have the right to vote??? what about their rights??? Over-Generalizing & Mis-Labeling PROP 8 VOTERS as "Haters" is actually an act of hate in and of itself.

This kind of attack on PROP 8 VOTERS only perpetuates false stereotypes about ppl who have the right to their beliefs.

Ppl have the right to their beliefs without being attacked.

Gay couples can join in CIVIL UNIONS and have all the CIVIL RIGHTS available to them. PROP 8 does NOT in any way infringe on those CIVIL RIGHTS. It just maintains the original definition of "MARRIAGE" as between a Man and a Woman.

Prop 8 is about beliefs NOT hate.

Arent you Roman Catholic? Weren't you raised Roman Catholic? Im pretty sure you were. So sweetheart, our religion opposes gay marriage and homosexuality. God made female and male to procreate. That is the pinnacle of life and you should, as a catholic, understand this and not be vocal about it.

I feel the need to correct a few statements on this blog. Violetta, I am Catholic as well. Infact, my brother is a priest and has just celebrated his fifth anniversary. I have gone through many phases of disbelief in the churches teachings, but I have found something to be very true. The Catholic church is NOT against gays. The church herself sees no problem with those being attracted to others of the same sex. It is the incorrect teachings of CCD teachers (most of whom spew self-righteous opinions rather than concrete facts)and sometimes unfortunately, even priests, that the Church believes gay people will go to hell etc. The ONLY reason we believe gay people should not get married is because in the bible it says not only "man shall not lay with man" but it also states that the purpose of marriage is for a man and a woman to procreate - p.s. THIS IS WHY YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE (I know old-fashioned right? lol)If one really does follow the teachings of not only Catholicism but Christianity as well it does state that the reason for marriage is to have a holy bond in which to create children and you can't do that without having sex. Now because lets just say the 'parts don't fit'lol between a man and a man and a woman and a woman they naturally can't have children and therefore should technically not be allowed to be married if they truly understand the true meaning of marriage. And I am NOT saying that those straight couples who have trouble having children are siners that is a completely different scenario seeing as NATURALLY they have the ABILITY to have children. Why does religion and politics need to be seperate? The separation of church and state does not mean the separation of God and government or of religion and politics. The First Amendment limits only the power of government — not the power of the people or of the church.
Being gay is a choice, there's no (valid) scientific evidence that proves that you're born gay. It's a perversion really not love. It's very easy to confuse love with lust. So if a man/woman falls in love with a 12 year old they should go and get married? if love = love then what's the difference? Here's hoping the California Supreme Court upholds Prop 8 which they have to do according to the constitution and they know it.

I guess the root of the problem is that there seems to a smeared line of 'separation of church and state'. The only reason the government is involved in this is because they tax marriages and unions. Marriages are a religious ceremony, while a union is a civil service ceremony with no connection to any form or religion. If the government did not tax marriages they would have no say in whether or not any religion, especially in this case Catholicism, denied the right to perform the religious ceremony for gay couples. If the state only taxed civil unions there would be no problem because civil unions are ONLY recognized by the state, NOT be God (hence them being performed by a judge rather than a religious figure). Therefore, religious people's would not care if a gay or lesbian couple wished to have a union performed, since it does NOT involve FORCING them to say their God accepts and acknowledges it. Basically, the government is money hungry and is trying to make some side cash by allowing gay and lesbian couples to 'marry'. It has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with what is right or wrong. I think a bill should be passed saying it is ILLEGAL to tax any form of marriage!!!
