10 Ways to Avoid the Flu

Cold and Flu Prevention
As one of the many people who have already suffered from the flu this season (I literally could not get out of bed for three days straight!), I wanted to take a moment to provide all of you with some helpful tips to avoid this horrible bug. Read my tips below and if you have any to add leave them in the comments section. xoxoxo

  1. Get a flu shot! Check out www.flu.gov to find locations near you.
  2. Wash your hands multiple times a day for 15-30 seconds. Scrub those babies!!!
  3. Keep your hands away from your face — I tend to have a problem with this one since I have a habit of touching my hair a lot. I’m working on it though!
  4. Get lots of sleep! – Depriving yourself of sleep can weaken your immune system, so the more sleep you get, the more capable your body will be of fighting sickness.
  5. Exercise to boost your immune system. Even just a quick run around the blog can be helpful.
  6. Eat fruits and veggies that are rich Vitamin C — oranges, grapefruits, grapes, bananas, apples, tomatoes, lettuce, bell peppers, strawberries, broccoli, kale, papaya and avocado are some good options.
  7. Sanitize! Carry around a travel size bottle of hand sanitizer and use after dining out, using public transportation, shaking someone’s hand, etc.
  8. For all of you nail biters, flu season is the perfect time to break that bad habit. Nail biting is an easy way to ingest germs, so next time you’re about to nibble, stop and think about the bacteria that has been building up under there (sorry if I’m grossing you out, it’s for your own good!).
  9. While we’re on the topic of breaking bad habits, quitting smoking is another good way to help you avoid the flu (not to mention all the other health problems smoking can lead to…).
  10. Stay hydrated! Drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day can help give your immune system the boost it needs to fight illness this winter.

Khloe: I am a UC Berkeley grad with also a Masters in Divinity and Doctoral work in Theology and Philosophy. I just want to let you know that you possess many natural talents in supporting people, listening to people, and attempting to create positive outcomes for all the people involved. Despite your family’s high profile, and the many people who are very disdainful of your family, what I see is a family very well versed in saying “I love you.” That is a powerful statement, and you all are very good at it. That puts you in the top 1% of functional families. I admire you, I admire your strong husband – I think you are both very old souls. Take care and enjoy your life.
